Challenge #17- "Little Girls with Curls"

After using the "men" theme, let's turn our attention to the feminine side. The theme for the next two weeks is "Little Girls with Curls".    I would love to have you enter.  You have 2 weeks to enter as the challenge ends May 15th at midnight.

My card shows the type of "curls" my daughters had....none.  I kept hoping, but even now with their being grown, they still have straight hair.  The reason I picked this cute little girl as she is from my sponsor, Mo's Digital Pencil.  The image is colored with Copics and the background is a TJ technique, Textured Tape.  The greeting is computer generated.

I'm about to show my age with my card this time because as soon as I heard the challenge Girls With Curls I immediately thought of Shirley Temple. Now I can't get the song "On the Good Ship Lollipop" out of my head. I remember watching Shirley Temple movies when I was a child and thinking how cute she was. I kept my card in black in white to go with the times of her movies. I added the pink roses just as a contrast.  Shirley's image is a Stampsmith stamp.

I've had this little image from Magic Moonlight Free images in my folder for quite a while and as soon as Vicki announced the theme I knew it would be perfect for the challenge. This time I created a tag using Prima patterend paper as base for the tag. The young lady with the curly hair is well protected behind clear vellum which is machine stitched to the base. It gave a very nice little pocket so I couldn't resist and filled the vellum pocket with some micre beads. The sentiment stamp is from Kaisercraft and ribbon from my stash.

Curly hair is a wonderful thing. I pulled out all of my stamps that featured curly-haired girls and decided to use the wonderful lady blowing a kiss from Leavenworth Jackson and and the sweet clown girl from Character Constructions. My background is a Technique Junkies technique called "marbled smoosh." The stamped images were stamped on colorful blue paper from the Paper Temptress. I glued the kissing lady on to a butterfly embellishment to give her wings and otherwise embellished everything else with flowers and stickers. Celebrate your curls!

My Mojo just wasn't into layers and such, when I sat down to make a card for this challenge, so it became an even bigger challenge! Going back to "old school" I did my stamping right onto the card, then colored with pencil and with markers. I added small silk flowers and rhinestones to finish it off. Stamping directly on the card is something I haven't done in years, and forgotten the difficulties of doing this.

Two in One

This is the second post for today.  My first post was the precious card created by Petra.  This time I am posting two of my cards 

This little girl image is by Magnolia.  She is colored with  Copics.  As an added touch I made a lace ruffle for the card highlighted with a silk flower which I took apart and put back together with a stone brad.

 Recently I made a number of papers using the Embossed Webbing technique.  I will be using these as background papers in the near future.  Some of them had thick webbing while others had fine webbing.  This card uses one of the papers using thick webbing in the Embossed Webbing . 

The image is by Mo's Digital Pencil.  It has been put on a dark blue shadow.  The flower is a single silk flower and the verse is from Quote Garden.  The greeting says "The Rose Bowl is the only bowl I have seen that I didn't have to clean." by Erma Bombeck.

Challenge # 16 - There is a Man in My Life

This week I am focusing on men, yes men.  The challenge this week is "There is a Man in my Life".  You can make a card, tag, etc. for a man or one with a man- young or old- on your project..  I would love to see what you create keeping this theme in mind.

My card uses images from Moonlight Journey, the sponsor for this challenge.  The background is Distressed Glue, a Technique Junkie technique.  This is a very easy technique, but you have to have patience while everything dries.  I took a sponge that had been used with distressed ink and tinted my greeting as well as the face and hands of the image as I didn't like the stark white of the man's face and hands.

I am also entering this card in Gingersnap Creations' GC 96 Ginger, Copper and Rust.

My card also uses digital images from Moonlight Journey. The background is from Steampunk Backgrounds and the man and the words are from Masterful Men Tags. Only the hat is not from Moonlight Journey. I had one of those happy accidents as I was starting this card. When I went to print the images, I didn't realize that I had photo paper in the printer and I printed out the images. Normally I would have used plain cardstock. I really liked how the images looked like photos, so I used them. The balloon was printed twice. I cut out the balloon, rounded it with a paper rounder and used hot glue to attach it and give it dimension. The big clock, spinner, and gear are from the Tim Holtz Idea-ology line. The little gears are actual watch parts that I had in my stash. I love doing Steampunk art and I think it makes great man cards.

Using Tom Holtz stamps I created this card for my youngest son's birthday ( April 15) It is a cream colored card that has been dry embossed on the front cover. The can and the sentiment were stamped then trimmed. The sentiment is mounted onto a thin cork and gold paper. The time piece is stamped onto the hand made paper layer, and clock face and gold corner charm were the finishing touches.

Little men - big men ... it never seems to be so easy to make cards for either! The card is based on a sketch from Mojo Monday. I used Basic Grey papers for covering the square white card. The top of the second layer has been punched with an EKSuccess punch and has been embellished with machine-sewn lines. The stamped images are from Lily of the Valley and coloured with Copics and Koh-i-noor pencils. Buttons and thread are from my stash. Wishing you all lots of sunshine!

I'm definitely one of those folks who is challenged when it comes time to make cards for men. I don't exactly know why this is -- and I could get philosophical about it but I'll save that for another time... Anyway I have it in my head that I should keep cards for men more simple. And I like simplicity so that was the inspiration for this card. The main image is a Louis Armstrong stamp from the Stampsmith. I applied markers directly to the stamp. I cut out my image at an angle, drew a dark brown border on that with another marker and then attached it to some designer paper. I then attached that to the brown card stock. I thought about putting a saying on it but I opted to keep with the simple theme. I'd be happy to give this to any man in my life!

More Inspiration for You

My project this time was to made an arch as there were a number of challenges I also wanted to enter.  The main image is from Moonlight Journey. my sponsor for this challenge.  This is one of many images of men they carry.  I distressed all of the paper.  The background paper was distress in walnut and the forground was done in brick.  I used the wrinkle-free distressing method.  The bird is a Tim Holtz die and I highlighted the embossing that was done on the bird.  To give it a steampunk touch, I used one of the Moonlight Journey's butterfly images.  The stars are part of the designer paper.

I am also entering this into challenges at Studio L3, Gothic Arches, and Simon Stamp and Show.

A very good friend of mine has birthday very soon. He is a very enthusiastic glider and vintage aircraft pilot. This stamp from Artemio is just perfect! The base is a square Kraftcard layered with patterend paper. The edges of all layers are slightly distressed with Walnut Stain Distress ink. For the aircraft scene I first stamped the background in Bundled Sage and Pumice Stone Distress ink and then the aircraft with Walnut Stain Distress ink. The sentiment is from Kaisercraft and layered on patterend paper. The finishing touches are some eyelets, some thread and a little heart button.

Challenge # 15 - Are We There Yet?

The weather is getting nicer and everyone is thinking about vacations or just imagining that he or she is headed to the perfect spot  Therefore we turn our attentions to "Are We There Yet?".  This is the question the kids ask everytime they get into the car with mom and dad.  This is the theme of the challenge for the next two weeks.  Your creation can either be different modes of transportation or destinations.  The choice is yours.  You may make cards, tags, or other projects as long as they protray a travel theme.

Here are the different ways the Design Team illustrate this theme.

The phrase "Are We There Yet" often makes you think about the kids in the back seat whining during the car trip. But as I reflected on this theme I realized I haven't had a vacation in a long time so my question became "When Are We Going?"! This led me to my creation which is a mixed media collage on a gothic arch speaking to this theme of travel. I layered several vintage travel images and luggage labels from Twisted Papers then layered on a stamped "diva" image from a Hampton Arts stamp. I layered a bit of a die cut from K & Company and also painted around with some acrylic paints and made fun dots with poster paint as well. When are we going? Enjoy!

Do you remeber the last time when you went on holidays with your children, you were hardly in the car and the first question they asked was: Are We There Yet? I definitely do and my card is a tribute to all those trips and nagging questions (lol). The card base is Kraft card from Pink Petticoat layered with papers from TracyAnnDigital Art. The edges of the patterend papers are slightly distressed. I used stamps from Artemio, Craft Stampers magazine and Vintage Christmas No 4. I did some fuzzy cutting with the images and mounted them on foam pads.

I'm ready for a vacation. I've got my ticket and a world map. Where is this plane heading? I don't know, but are we there yet? All of these stamps are from the Tim Holtz collection. The map is great, and I really love the ticket. It looks so real. Yes, I'm old enough to remember traveling with paper tickets.

 Here it is April already.  Can you guess where I would like to go?  Yes, it is Paris.  I wonder if there is a stamper in Paris who would like to trade a month with me?  Hm... maybe I'll put in an ad..  I tried a new technique in this month's Technique Junkies Newsletter called Foam Stamping.  When I do this again, I think I will put just a little more ink on my foam.  However, I do  admit I like having just a  hint of color behind this  image.  The stamp is by Stampers Anonymous.  The greeting is off my printer.

Collage Tag

Here is a tag I made for Bella Creations' Oh La La  using the woman image from Gecko Galz.  The bird nest is from Moonlight Journey and the greeting is by Alpha Stamps..  The  lady's hat is decorated with  pearls and a small inlay stone with a rose on it.

Challenge # 15 - More Inspiration for the "Travel" Challenge

You still have a week to enter "Are We There Yet?' challenge as it closes at midnight on April 17.  Petra and I have made additional cards to inspire you. 

When we travel, we usually take the motorhome across the US or take a cruise to a foreign port.  Here is one place that I haven't made it to yet.  That is Rome.  I am still playing with Foam Stamping, a Technique Junkie technique

The above card uses a stamp from Hampton Arts.  I used Memento ink and the foam stamping was done in lavendar, light blue, and dark blue.  The stamped image and blue mat are on a while card.  The letters are some I recently found.  They are dimensional.

This card also uses Foam Stamping.  The image is by The Stamp Pad.  The colors I used here are a little brighter than the previous one.  Can't you imagine going on a trip in this jalopy?

On the Way to the Party - how far is it? are we there yet?

The transportation is - their own feet but at the end of the road a wonderful party waits for them with lots of treats, games and galores of fun! They might even do some crafting .... (lol)

The background of the tag is stamped with the Hero Arts Clouds stamp, the edges distressed with Vintage Photo Distress Ink. The children group is another Hero Arts stamps, the kite and sentiment are from Elzybells. Because it is always really nice to bring something with you to the party, the little present and cupcake came from the web.

I bet they cannot wait to arrive!

Another Page

Here is another page of the Gluebook that I am working on.  It is a very enjoyable experiment.   I have spent a lot of time on it lately so I haven't done a lot of stamping recently.  On the next page I plan to incorporate a little stamping if possible.

Collage Project

I have been trying new techniques and projects lately to see what I like doing the best.  Below is my first Gluebook.  This is the first two pages that I have been working on.  I'm fairly pleased with the way it has turned out.  Now I have got to work on my photographing a book so the book is straight and there are no shadows.

Challenge #14 - Be a Sport

Are you tired of basketball? I hope not as the challenge this week is "Be a Sport" Don't limit your creations to basketball now as there are other sports. Soon baseball will take front stage on my TV. What sport will you take part in or watch...maybe it is racing. I can't wait to see what you make.

My card is on the whymsical side again.  I believe this golfer has hit his ball into the rough again.  My image is from Dude Time Doodles, my sponsor for this challenge.  I used it on a zig-zag accordian card which is an expanding easel card.    This card can be found on the "Fancy Folds and Motion Paper Crafts" CD by Technique Junkies.

I tried to made the foreground like the rough that the golf hit his ball into.  Of course, I needed a golf ball.  That was easy to do.  I just punched a circle, ran it through an embossing folder and then highlighted it by the paper direct method.  What rough doesn have high grass.  That was done with a borrowed punch.  Coloring was done with Copic markers.  The greeting was from Dude Time Doodles also.  I wonder how many men are on the golf course today and how many have this problem?.  I hope this card puts a smile on your face today. 

Petra - Bicycle Artistry

My first DT piece for an exciting challenge: Be a Sport. After finding the amazing and intriguing image from Vintage Bicycle the sport of cycling had to be the choice. The card base is a white square card which is layered with Pink Petticoat Kraftcard and patternd paper from 3Bugs in a Rug. Before adding the image I stamped 'creative' words from Stampers Anonymous onto the paper. The sentiment is printed, the wonderful vintage bicycle image is from Hero Arts whereby I couldn't resist to 'improve' the bicycle hubs with snap fasteners. Enjoy the ride and the excitement of the artistic adventure! Petra.
