Mothers and Sisters Challenge

Here we are at the beginning of another month and that means there is a new challenge at Lunagirl

Since Mother's Day is in May, Karen is using the theme "Mothers and Sisters". on her website.  Go to the above link and enter.  She has also posted the rules there and they are also listed on my previous site.

 

My first sample for this challenge is a typical classic card.  The image of the mother is from the many images that Karen carries at the Lunagirl website.  As added embellishment I used a butterfly and some sequin flowers.  The sentiment is from Our Daily Bread Designs.

 

 

Using Lace

Here is a card using lace as a background.  Other elements include circles made into a flower, flourish stickers, and a small bow.  The sentiment is by Our Daily Bread Designs.

No More Grey Skies!

We have had so many days with grey skies lately, that I decided to put in a little color with my card bu using watercolors.  The image and sentiment are by Our Daily Designs.

First, I want to thank Vicki and the rest of the team for giving me this opportunity to guest design for The Cheerful Stamp Pad.  It's a great opportunity!  I love to stamp and make cards, so this is great fun for me!

 

The current challenge is "use embossing powder", so I got busy with a resist technique and made this card.

 

I used clear embossing powder with white cardstock, then a variety of Tim Holtz distress inks to bring out the image.  The stamp is from Unity Stamp Company.  I used the same technique on the sentiment, from the same kit from Unity Stamp Company, called "May Hope Sustain You."

I'm lucky enough to be able to design for The Cheerful Stamp Pad for two weeks, so I'll be back again next week!

It just happened that this red rose paper was on my desk so I decided the best way to get it off the desk was to use it.  Since the designer paper was shades of red, I used a card base of red cardstock.  My embossing was used on the flower scroll work.  The sentiment is from Our Daily Bread Designs and the little red bow completes the card.

Embossing really makes an image pop.  It also makes your stamped images shiny though that doesn't show so well on the scan here.  My focal stamped image is by Rogue Redhead Designs and the card design is from the April sketch on the Rogue Redhead Facebook page.  My coordinating papers and the sentiment are from the "Reminisce Spring" Creative Memories paper pack.

I used one of my favourite stamps 'gracious lady' by Hero Arts, inking with memento tuxedo black and colouring with spectrum noir alcohol pens. I then swiped the whole stamped image with versamark and using clear embossing powder I triple embossed it. It is much glossier than it looks in the photos. I matted the image on to a feather and then on to the spotted paper to go inside the 'box' piece of the card. The box folds flat for postage as seen in the third picture (paperclips just to hold it for the photo).

One day I got an email from one of my favourite blogs and the card was just gorgeous and I just had to try it since I had all the things to do it with, well I had the Secret Garden stamp set from Stampin'up but the matching dies are in that safe place we all have so I stamped with versamark watermark embossed with the pewter embossing powder and coloured with the SU markers on the back and of course instead of die cutting them I fussy cut them. I love the way the flowers look on the gorgeous crocheted mat given to me by my friend Jessi.

I stamped a little butterfly from CraftyIndividuals with VersaMagic Red Brick ink and embossed it with Clear Gloss embossing powder from WOW. After cutting it out I coloured it with Copics. The magic of the embossing is that the colour does not run but it contained amongst the embossed lines. I love this process. Once the butterfly had its colour and blings I mounted it on a little tag and some design paer from Echo Park. The finishing touches are a little ribbon and a stamped sentiment (Waltzing Mouse).

Since I couldn’t  contribute last week, I decided to make 3 different cards, using embossing powder. I simply loved the effects. My first card is almost a tribute to Pablo Neruda. But above all, it is a love card. My second card can be used as an invitation for a tea party and my last card can be a bookmark too. The first two stamped images are from a Brazilian designer but the last one belongs to Clear Stamp. I used a grayish lead color embossed powder.Love the elegance created by embossing powders! Banner Card

Here is a quick banner sick card I made.  It was very simple to create as I just made small banners out of cardstock, cute them different lengths and added the Our Daily Bread Designs sentiment.  Since it is almost Valentine, I added two little hearts.

Snow and Snowflakes

Well, we are forcast to have snow the day after Christmas.  It isn't the same as a White Christmas, but I'll take it.  We don't get much measureable snow in Tennessee.  I just love  to watch it fall; I'm like a little kid when it comes to snow.

This card uses Sketch 1 from 2011 from Christmas Challenges with Sketches.  I used numerous snow designer papers.  Also in the layering is a die from Cheery Lynn Designs called Mexican Tile.  This diecut can be used for so many things.  I think it is perfect for a snow theme as it is like a snowflake, so lacey.   In a couple of the corners are dies from Corners F from CLD.  The theme for the CLD this week is Happy Holidays with Layering.   Highlighting the card are a couple of snowflakes from Spellbinders.   These were cut from glitter paper.  The image in the middle is a couple of stamps from Stampin' Up.  It is colored with Copic markers and the glittery snow is Stickles.

The third challenge for this card is Our Daily Bread Designs' Snow and Snowflakes challenge, the theme for my card.  I did not have any of their winter-type stamps so I used the word Blessings from their Christmas Blessings stamp. 

Noel Challenge

This card is for Our Daily Bread Designs' word challenge of "Noel".  Here are my word ingredients.
N is for "New" as this is a new ODBD stamp.  I recently ordered it and I haven't had a chance to use it before.  O is for "Odd" as this is an odd earring being used for the center of my flower. I do not  have a match for it.    E is for "Embellishment" .  I used some sticker flourishes as an embellishment to the card.  L is for "Lace"  The entire background of the card has been covered in old lace.  The scan doesn't show it, but the card is reaally delicate looking..

Christmas Greetings

 I am posting a series of Clhristmas Greetings cards for the season and they are for you, my followers and visitors to my blog  who have been so sweet as to leave me encouraging comments about my cards and other projects.  I hope you find one that you really like.

 

This card starts with a white embossed background.  On top of that I placed a doilly from Cheery Lynn Designs in red.  The white scolloped circle is a die cut from Spellbinders.  Down the left side is a strip of green glitter cardstock.  Below the dies is a faux ribbon made from striped designer paper with the red, green and white colors. 

 

I used a Our Daily Bread Designs greeting in the white circle.  To finish off the card, I used flowers and leaves made from Cheeery Lynn's Build-a-Flower.  Even though it doesn't really show, I added glitter to the flowers and leaves to go with the green glitter cardstock as most Christmas cards have glitter or shimmer.

Following a Sketch

This is the sketch that Our Daily Bread Designs is using for their challenge ODBDSLC126 this week.

 

This is the card I made following the sketch above.

 

On the white base I placed a piece of lavendar designer paper of roses.  On top of that are two lacey circles by Spellbinders. These were stamped with two Our Daily Bread Design stamps.  Next I placed a silver ornate trim from the fabric department at Wal-mart.  As a final touch are two strips of purple ribbon, a bow and a corner adorner cut with  a Cheery Lynn Designs die.

 

I am also entering this in Cheery Lynn Designs Challenge #50, Corner Adorners.

Tea-Stained Music

.Here is a card I made using a piece of tea-stained sheet of music  The sentiment is placed on a matted Lacey Circle Spellbinders die.   The sentiment is from Our Daily Bread.  In the corner is a multi-layered flowers and a bow finishes off the card.

Fall is Here

I really like the Fall.  However, I know winter and cold weather are soon to follow.  Here is a card I made for the second week of Just Some Lines' challenge "Fall Colors".

This is a get well card I made for a friend who just got home after having surgery.  It uses an image from Just Some Lines and a gate made by a Cheery Lynn Designs.   I am not sure which dies were used for the leaves as they were given to me by a friend.  The sentiment is from Our Daily Bread.  I am entering this in the Keep it Krafty challenge at Cheery Lynn Designs.

I wanted to make my card on the light side to cheer her up,  but at the same time give encouragement and I think this fits the bill.

A Mystical Feeling

 

My card is a little on the abstract this time.  I made my background with  alcohol inks and a dragonfly stamp from Rubber Stampede.  The Polynesian Sail Oval die is from Cheery Lynn Designs The smaller die is the inside you get when cutting the main die.  I trimmed it down to fit the area.  The sentiment on the smaller die is from Our Daily Bread Designs.

 

I am entering this in Cheery Lynn Designs' challenge "Frame It" and Our Daily Bread Designs' "Make Your Own Background".

The Design Team and I are taking a Fall Break fron challenges. The members have been working so hard and they deserve a break.   When we begin again I will be starting something different.  I hope you will like the addition of an "Upcoming Challenges" list on my sidebar.  This way you will be able to plan ahead a little on my challenges.  It will give the date, the theme of the challenge and the sponsor.  Now for today's post.......

This is a card I made for ODBDSLC121 Our Daily Bread's Shining the Light Challenge "You Leave Me in Stitches".  I love working in blue and white.  My card has a blue base with a white border made by a Martha Strwart punch.  The Our Daily Bread image is as Bible verse from Psalm 48 which has been placed on a lighter blue mat with stitching.  As embellishment I chose  a flourish by Cheery Lynn Designs which I enhanced to fit the space and a white rose made with a Spellbinders die.  I am also entering this in Cheery Lynn Designs' challenge Stitch It Up.

Polka Dots and Lace

I make a lot of "cute" cards so I am working on my more classic or elegant style.  I started with a piece of polka dot paper as my background.  On top is the Cheery Lynn Designns Japanese Oval die.  Inside is a some scripture from Psalms 48:14. The scripture stamp is from Our Daily Bread Designs.  Lastly I created a flower with a leaf spray using the same color as the dots, ink and the die. 

This card was made for the challenge "Scripture" being held at Our Daily Bread Designs.

Following a Sketch

I am rushing the Christmas season, but with it being so hot in Tennessee, I am in the mood to make cards for cool weather.  This card is for Our Daily Bread Designs challenge ODBDSLC117 of following the sketch below.

This is my card from the sketch above.  I used a  stamp from Our Daily Bread Designs' Loving Memories collection.  I also used the center part of Cheery Lynn Designs' Canadian Kaleidoscope Doily  die.  I really like taking apart and putting different dies together to make an original one to fit my needs and space.  The center of this doily cut out of silver cardstock was a perfect fit.

Silver and Gold Sympathy Card

As leader of my card group at church, I make numerous sick and sympathy cards.  Here is a white card adorned with silver and gold.  I don't know why the scanner picked up some blue as it is heavy silver cardstock that a friend gave me.  It is a very bright silver.  The mat is gold cardstock on which I stamped a sentiment from Our Daily Bread Designs.  On top of that I use a Cheery Lynn Designs die called Polynesian Sails. This was cut out of silver. In order to join the Classy Cards and Such I needed a handmade flower. I do not really have anything to make the pretty roses yet (that is on my Wish List) so I took the center of the Polynesian die and cut it down to size. Then I used a punch and made some petals out of gold. The center is a brad with a stone.  This is a flat flower and hopefully will not cost additional postage.

This card is for the Cheery Lynn Designs' challenge of Silver and Gold and for Classy Cards and Such's challenge CCNS #12 Handmade Flowers.

A Sympathy Card

Here is a card I made today for a friend.  It uses a sentiment from Our Daily Bread Designs.  The flowers are 3D  The second photo shows the layers on the flowers which are separated by pop ups.  I hope it brings a smile to her during this tough time.

Challenge # 19 -- A Special Reason

This is a chance to show some of your special cards.  The theme for the challenge for the next two weeks is  "A Special Reason".  What kind of cards can you make?  Here are some ideas - wedding, birth of baby, sympathy, graduation, words of encouragement, with a religious theme or anniversary.  This is just a few ideas, but please NO Birthdays.  I know birthdays are special, but we may be doing them later.

I did not have any stamps from Our Daily Bread, but I have ordered some of their 3D sheets.  I put in my order too late to show them here, but I hope to later this week.   I can't wait to use them.  In the meantime my card  is  either a synpathy (which I have someone I need to send it to) or for someone who has been recently baptized. 

I decided to go with mainly black and white.  I feel that the black and white really shows up my main image better since it is colored with Copics.  The beautiful rose is from McMahon Five Designs.  The verse is  a d digital from Sweet and Sassy.

Before this challenge I had never used any stamps from Our Daily Bread but I checked out their website and ordered a set of stamps with quotes by Mother Teresa. I am inspired by Mother Teresa so I was delighted to receive this high quality stamp set which included several quotes and also a lotus flower stamp. My card is meant as an encouragement. I kept it very simple. I made my background by spritzing watercolor jewels by Stamp Zia. I got extra dimension by using a paper towel to dry the watercolors rather than letting them air dry. I colored the stamps with markers rather than ink so that I could use multiple colors on the flower. I affixed all of that to some nice textured card stock. We always need cards for special times -- I hope this challenge inspires many of you to get some special occasion cards made before you actually need them!

On Your Wedding Day

Being in the middle of making the wedding invitations for my daughter's wedding this year, it just had to be a card for a wedding! I layered an A6 vanilla coloured plain card with paper from Prima Marketing and Webster's Pages and attached the paper with some machine sewing to the base. Unfortuantely I cannot remember where the image is from, I had it in my stash like the piece of lace. For the heart I cut it from thick cardboard, covered it in VersaMagic ink, glitter glue and loose glitter. The words (stamps: Eline Pellinkhof) are stamped on little jewellery tags.

New Baby

For my card I used Noah's Ark from Our Daily Bread Designs to create an card for a new baby. I stamped the image with Stazon on one side of a piece of acetate. Then I flipped the acetate over and painted it on the back with my Creative Inspirations Paints. When the paints were dry, I flipped back and stamped the sentiment on the front with Stazon. The panel behind the acetate was embossed on the top and on the bottom using two different embossing folders to give the look of clouds and water. The embossings were highlighted using perfect pearls. I connected the acetate to the back panel using small brads. This whole usit was adhered to the base card. I hope you join us in this challenge. Special occasion cards are always needed.

More "Special" Cards

I hope everyone is having a great Sunday.  In Tennessee today it is 95*.  After church and lunch, I'm staying inside.  I know I say I like hot weather, but with the humidity here in TN, it is a little much....now if I lived out west, it wouldn't be so bad.

Here is an encouragement or friendship  card.  I am using another flower from Our Daily Bread Designs' flower sheets.  These are really great to embellish your card or on a mixed media project.  The backgroud shape is made with a Spellbinder and the background cardstock of my greeting itself is made with embossed webbing, a Technique Junkie technique.  The greeting is a digital from Sweet and Sassy.

Encouragement

Now and again every single one of us needs a little bit of encouragement, wishing us good luck when facing a new situation, attempting something new. The card was created in this spirit, a card which combines something old and a lot of new. For the old I 're-cycled' the inside of old envelopes and created the square inset, the new bit is everything else (lol): a square white card - a square frame cut with nestabilities from white card - birdcage and birds are from Prickley Pear stamps, the sentiment from Waltzing Mouse - the birds are coloured with VersaColor ink - birds, birdcage and sentiment are embossed.

I'm So Pleased

I am so pleased with the way this card turned out.  It  uses a flower sheet from my sponsor of the current challenge, Our Daily Bread Designs.  Besides stamps, ODBD offers numerous other products for card making and this is one of them.

The flowers are placed on the card in 3D fashion.  Since I wanted the flowers to be the spotlight of my card, I made a simple mat background using Spellbinders.  The greeting is by Sweet and Sassy.  As an added touch, I put two little stones on the greeting and a butterfly sticker on the flowers.    Below are various views of the card.  I hope you like it.
